Dovercourt takes on the #IceBucketChallenge for ALS!

This morning (Fri. Aug. 22) at our Camp's morning giddy up, Dovercourt camp staff and campers did a mass Ice Bucket Challenge for ALS.

Aside from all that chilly good fun, the most important thing is to increase awareness about ALS, a devastating disease with no known cause, cure, or effective treatment, and to raise funds for research and treatment.

Ice Bucket Challenge videos are rampant on social media these days, and while naysayers may doubt the movement's effectiveness, here's what Forbes magazine had to say about it.

We have a donation bucket at our camp sign in and sign out for kids, parents & staff to make donations. If you prefer to make a donation online, you can sponsor Dovercourt's fundraising efforts on our page on the ALS.ca website.

The Westboro Brainery

It's time to feed your brain at the Westboro Brainery. http://www.westborobrainery.ca/

The Westboro Brainery offers cool classes to TAKE and TEACH. It is where the community teaches and learns together. The Westboro Brainery classes are short 90mins to 2 hours long, inexpensive, and taught by hobbyists, experts, nerds and academics. The classes offered are mainstream, slightly strange or downright whacky, as long as the subject is interesting to some, a class will run!

This new stream of programming is mostly for adults. Our goal is to offer as many classes as we can every month. We just need teachers and "students". Classes will take place anywhere we can find space in the community!
Check out the website http://www.westborobrainery.ca/ for details on these classes and bookmark it as we will be adding more... frequently!

We are also looking for teachers of all-kinds of things. Do you have a special interest you would like to share? We would love to hear from you. We have a "teach a class" form on the website. Is there something you'd love to know - ask. We will put it out to the community... we are sure someone knows and we can set it up! Fill in the "suggest a class" form.

Join us at the Westboro Brainery. We all have a lot to share.
