summer camps 2025 wrap up

Thank You for an Amazing Summer at Dovercourt Camps!

As the last traces of sunscreen fade and the giddy songs echo in our memories, we want to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you for being part of our Summer 2025 Dovercourt Day Camp season. What an incredible summer it has been!

This year, more than 5,000 campers filled our grounds with laughter, energy, and curiosity. From splashing through water days to conquering climbing walls, mastering new skills, and making lifelong friends, your kids made this summer unforgettable — and we couldn’t be prouder of all they accomplished.

Some highlights of the season include:

  • Over 5100 campers attended camp this summer, including over 400 of our adventurers received amazing support from our inclusion team.
  • Over 270 different camps running this summer, offering something for every camper.
  • Creative projects galore — from tie-dye masterpieces to paper airplanes to epic team challenges. With over 200 lbs of chalk for the colour run.
  • Water fun and outdoor play that kept spirits cool and smiles wide with over 200 hours of pool time!
  • Over 35 campers participated in our Last Minute Club, which helps fill unused spots in more than 60 camps. This initiative supports campers facing financial barriers, giving them access to enriching experiences they might otherwise miss. By maximizing camp capacity and promoting equity, the program creates meaningful opportunities for connection, growth, and inclusion—ensuring every child has a chance to thrive.
  • Most importantly, countless moments of growth, confidence, and connection

None of this would have been possible without you — our camp families — trusting us to create a safe, fun, and enriching space for your children to thrive. On behalf of our entire Dovercourt Recreation team, thank you for sharing your summer with us.

Staff awards

…and the results are in!

Every summer we award some of our amazing counsellors a series of awards for their contribution to our camps. The first is a series called the  High Five Awards.

  • A Caring Leader – Taryn Colemen: The caring leader award is dedicated to someone who provides supportive relationships for all our campers and staff.
  • Participation – Abdulrahman Suliman: Children need to make choices, have a voice, and do things by and for themselves, which supports positive self-expression, physical activity, and interaction with others.
  • Play – Lydia Assani: Encouraging fun, creativity, and co-operation, play lets children shape their environment using their imaginations. In addition, play is integral to the acquisition and development of motor and social skills, cognitive function, and creativity.
  • Friends – Positive peer interaction is a key component in the production of our programs. The ability to make friends expands every camper’s ability to trust, respect others, offer support, and find common interests with others. Positive environments foster inclusion, acceptance, the opportunity for fun in constructive play, and the opportunity to develop and practice social skills.
  • Mastery – Liam Boyd: Providing children with activities and tasks that enable them to feel special, important, and successful. This type of rich content-based learning, led by teachers and coaches who encourage mastery (both through structured and unstructured strategies) helps to promote learning.

Congrats to the great team members who went above and beyond to make camp unforgettable!

Inclusion & Integration Support

The belief that every child has an equal right to a happy summer camp experience is at the heart of our planning and we remain committed to ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment. To accomplish this, we rely strongly on the partnership of parents, which begins early on with open communication. Please take the time to make us aware of any medical, behavioural, social, or cognitive differences your child may have at the time of registration. This might include social anxieties, communication barriers, the tendency to run or wander away from the group, or simply requiring additional “body breaks” or extra attention. Our Inclusion team is comprised of dedicated and caring individuals trained in behaviour management strategies and Non-Violent Crisis Prevention and Intervention. We work closely with families to offer various levels of support including 1:1 support workers, low-ratio staffing, camp buddies, and individual accommodation plans. For questions or to discuss your child’s participation in camp, please reach out to inclusion@dovercourt.org
