We have two types of programs: Registered programs & non-registered programs.

Registered programs
include Specialty, Pilates, Yoga, Aquafitness, Spinning and Strength classes. Sign up for a particular class and attend from the beginning of the session until the end. Classes that do not meet a minimum number of participants may be cancelled at the beginning of the session, so be sure to sign up early!

Non-registered programs include Group Fitness, Fitness Centre Memberships, and one-on-one programs like Personal Training, Fitness Appraisals & Reflexology. These programs may be participated in at any time with the appropriate pass or purchase of a session. Online registration is not available for these programs because you must obtain a pass from Customer Service.

Heart Wise Exercise:

If the following critieria are met, this program can be recommended for those with or without known cardiac disease who are looking for an appropriate exercise program.

Look for this logo next to course descriptions.

A HeartWise exercise program:

  • Has an emergency plan that is documented and known to all leaders, including current CPR certification, phone access to EMS and presence of an Automatic External Defibrillator
  • Provides health screening for all participants.
  • Accepts participants with a known history of cardiac disease – provided they have physician approval.
  • Allows participants to exercise at low intensity, and has progressive options to increase intensity if appropriate.
  • Incorporates and encourages warm up, cool down and self-monitoring with all exercise sessions.
  • Encourages regular, daily aerobic exercise.

Alternating Classes in Group Fitness:
Many of our instructors alternate with another instructor for a given time slot & class. Some instructors also alternate different formats of class each week. Here is a guide to those classes. We do our best to maintain this schedule, but sometimes substitutions occur.

Fitness for young people: The Health and Fitness department is offering more programs aimed at kids and young adults. Existing programs have been made more accessible with lower age limits. Our Fitness Centre (weight room) is open to 16 yrs and older; and to 14 & 15 yr olds if accompanied by an adult (the Centre is not supervised). Inquire about age requirements for other fitness programs.

We have also created the
Youth Fitness Menu & Kids-n-motion programs. Teachers can engage us to add zip to phys-ed classes by bringing their students to Dovercourt, or have our instructors visit their school. Choose from a wide variety of fitness classes and our Aquatic Survival package. Call 613-798-8950 ext. 227 for details.
