Dovercat had
his origins in the early 1990's.
The Health & Fitness Department
had created a 'chit' or 'tag' system where Group Fitness participants
signed in for a class and were given a chit or tag to give
to the instructor. Instructor Trish Stolte sketched a little
cat-like creature to use on signs as a friendly reminder.
Initially he was called the "Chit Cat" because of
the chit system. Soon after as he began to appear doing other
activities, he was dubbed "Dovercat" and the rest
is history.
In the early
days, he had whiskers, the DRA
logo on his chest and laces & bows on his feet, as though
he had running shoes on.
Over the years, these details were dropped to make him simpler
and more appealing. |
