In February 2005, Dovercat began a new era. He has come to life, from 2-D drawings to a furry 6 foot reality.

Sugars Mascots in Toronto has created a larger-than-life mascot costume for us. Dovercat the mascot has appeared at the Centre, and will be making special appearances in the Community.

Below are some very early versions from the sketchbook archives of creator Trish Stolte.

earliest Dovercat image

The very first version of Dovercat, around 1992,
when he was known as the 'Chit Cat'.

Dovercat had his origins in the early 1990's. The Health & Fitness Department had created a 'chit' or 'tag' system where Group Fitness participants signed in for a class and were given a chit or tag to give to the instructor. Instructor Trish Stolte sketched a little cat-like creature to use on signs as a friendly reminder. Initially he was called the "Chit Cat" because of the chit system. Soon after as he began to appear doing other activities, he was dubbed "Dovercat" and the rest is history.

In the early days, he had whiskers, the DRA logo on his chest and laces & bows on his feet, as though he had running shoes on.

Over the years, these details were dropped to make him simpler and more appealing.

Dovercat had really skinny legs & arms in the early days!

Dovercat's look has changed a bit over the years, but he hasn't lost his "I'll try anything" attitude!
