Instructors may not have time to discuss your child's progress at the end of each lesson but if you leave your name and number with the head instructor you will receive a call.

SWIM TO SURVIVE

This program defines the minimal essential skills required to survive an unexpected fall into deep water. Research indicates that most drownings occur close to safety, which is why the requirements are very basic. This drowning prevention program aims to reduce drownings by 50% within 10 years. All swim lesson participants will be given the opportunity to earn this certificate of achievement.

Skill requirements: Roll into deep water; tread water (1 min); swim 50m

PARENTS DAY
excluding Summer

Parents/guardians have the opportunity to actively participate in their child’s swim lesson. Even if you don’t want to get wet it’s a great opportunity to join us on the deck to check up on your child’s progress and encourage their efforts. Siblings are welcome to watch but unfortunately are not allowed to join in the water. This usually takes place on the 6th lesson.

SURVIVAL DAY
excluding Summer

This unique Dovercourt activity takes place during the last swim lesson. Children are requested to wear long pants & T-shirts over their bathing suits and are taught a variety of self-survival techniques, boating safety, lifejacket & PFD safety and much more.
SURVEYS Please take the time to fill out a survey so we can continue to do the good things we do and improve upon those areas that need it. Also available on the Aquatics home page.
PROGRESS REPORT If you are unable to pick up your child's progress report, cerfificate or sticker, we will keep them on file for one complete session. Work sheets are kept for one year. Ask at the pool desk. If your child has not taken lessons for more than a year or you are unsure as to which level they should be registered in, please bring them to any Leisure or Family swim for an assessment.
OTHER AQUATIC CLASS INFORMATION:
DID YOU KNOW ? Dovercourt’s class ratios are all below the recommended minimums and maximums. In order to accommodate all patrons and keep our low student/teacher ratios, refunds or credits will only be issued one week prior to the start date. We will do our best to see that your child’s individual needs are met.
THE CLASS I WANTED IS FULL! Please add your name to the wait list. A class may be added if there are adequate numbers.
OH NO, WE HAD TO CANCEL A CLASS! Sometimes programs with great instructors have to be cancelled due to lack of registration. Please register early to ensure your spot and the continuation of the program.
POOL FOULINGS Everyone is affected when the pool is fouled. Babies, tots and those without bowel control MUST wear snug fitting pool pants. All participants should avoid eating or drinking too much prior to swimming and those 'under the weather' should stay home.

SWIM LESSONS FOR CAMPERS

We offer swim lessons in the mornings, afternoons and weekends. However, if you want to coordinate your child’s lesson with their summer camps, preschoolers (4-6 years old) please choose ONLY the lessons listed at 8:30am. All other campers may choose 8:20am or 3:50pm.

Morning participants: Parents are asked to have their children on the deck ready to swim with all their personal belongings with them. We will see that they are assisted to change if necessary & escorted to their camp.

3:50pm (7 years & older): Following lessons parents should pick up children at post camp care, if registered, or on the pool deck. Children must be signed out with the supervisor. Note: These children are not supervised in the change rooms and parents who are not comfortable with this should personally supervise them.
